- I mentioned that my system has been more stable while playing Minecraft since I stopped using the Distant Horizons mod.
- While thinking out loud about life without airport security, I mentioned the crazy number of hijackings in the 1960’s.
- I could not remember the name of the feature at the top of the castle walls and are port of the battlements. They are crenellations. I also talked a bit about gatehouses, murder holes, and portcullises.
- This was followed by a discussion of concentric defenses and a mention of Neuschwanstein. There was also discussion of functional castles and castles in looks only. During that bit, I mentioned a number of castles, including Highclere Castle, Cardiff Castle, Caerphilly Castle, and Chepstow Castle. I even mentioned the old motte and bailey part of Cardiff Castle.
- I could not remember the first name of Sir Walter Scott, the author of Ivanhoe and some other classic novels.
- Later on, I talked about the excesses of the rich, and I talked about the movie, Citizen Kane by Orson Welles, and how it was based on the actual person of William Randolph Hearst and his estate in San Simeon, California… which is now known as Hearst Castle. I said it was the last gasp of the Gilded Age.
- This led to my thoughts on our possibly entering a new Gilded Age and then I rambled on a bit about Bill Gates’s House in Medina, Washington.
- I mentioned the shows, the Gilded Age and Downton Abbey. That led to some remarks about the close personal servants of rich people back in the day, including and especially valets and lady’s maids.
