- Once I got the idea of Nazis in my head, I was stuck on the scene in Blues Brothers where Jake and Elwood almost run over a bunch of Illinois Nazis… forcing the Nazis to jump into the river.
- When I said, “good stuff, Maynard”, it was just something I picked up and still remember from this.
- I talked a bit about the Cold War.
- As I was illustrating my point about good and evil being based on context, I mentioned the Xanth fantasy series… specifically a character from that the first book in the series… which I now remember as Trent. We hear about him before we see him and the rumors are all negative and that he is evil, but he turns out to be a pretty decent guy.
- During my grandpa moment about memories, I mentioned the biopic the Doors. I also mentioned Jim Morrison‘s memories that inspired him to write Riders on the Storm.
- I mentioned 8 track tapes.
- Some of my own driving memories are triggered by some of the songs I mentioned including Tie a Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree by Tony Orlando and Dawn, Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves by Cher and Band on the Run by Paul McCartney and Wings.
- I mentioned the TV show, Adam 12 and later on I mention the shorts produced by the Hal Roach and Keystone (Mack Sennet) studios including the Our Gang Comedies and Laurel and Hardy.
- While talking about the changes to Southern California, I mentioned the oil wells of Long Beach.
- This led to some thoughts about environmentalism which really took off after the Cuyahoga River in Ohio caught fire.
- While comparing the beaches in Southern California to the beaches in the Pacific Northwest, I got to talking about ocean currents and the Coriolis effect.
- “Danger! Danger! Will Robinson!” is a catch phrase from Lost in Space.
Ever since I watched The Sting as a child, I have loved Ragtime music. However, I am not a musician, composer, or even a particularly knowledgeable fan of music. I enjoy what I enjoy and that includes many different genres of music. However, Ragtime is the soundtrack for the era I am simulating and this may the first time that modern listeners may be exposed to it. So I am including some general Ragtime links and whatever information I can find on the particular tracks I used in this episode.
