Rediscovered - Episode 14 - Movin' the Ball Down the Field
This episode will be released to the public on 8 Oct 2025 at 12:01 AM Pacific Time
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… but louder for the folks in the nosebleeds: survival games don’t let you focus on a single task at a time. You have to keep your eyes on a whole squad of guys trying to rush you and not just take the ball from you… oh no… they are out to kill you. You have the weather, wolves, bears, monsters, falling into holes or off cliffs… and of course… starvation. You’re not handed a clean playbook and time to read the defense — you’re scrambling, dodging, and audibling every five seconds while the clock’s ticking and the crowd’s roaring. At least I think the crowd is roaring. I’d settle for a generally positive murmuring… but unless you leave a comment or like, I really have no idea what is going on from your side of the screen.
But as I was saying, survival isn’t about having a neat list of tasks and calmly checking them off like a quarterback sipping Gatorade during halftime. No, it’s fourth-and-long, everything’s on fire, and you’re trying to build a shelter, craft a spear, and roast a raccoon… all while starvation and the weather are blitzing from the edge. Even though we’ve moved past the pure survival phase, the game still feels like I’m stuck in a two-minute drill with a dozen plays to run and no timeouts left.
So here’s the current play: I need to hit the forge like a lineman hitting the weight room… crafting the next tier of tools that’ll break open the game like a busted coverage. But I’m also expanding my resource stockpile, upgrading my homegrown production line, and prepping for a winter so cold it’ll make Minnesota look like a beach resort. I need clothes, tools, and enough supplies to make it through the season without punting my progress.
Sounds fun, right? Like trying to run a flea-flicker while juggling flaming footballs?
And yet — it is fun. It’s chaotic, it’s messy, it’s a full-contact brain workout. So come join me on today’s adventure, where I’ll be juggling tasks like a wide receiver dodging defenders. I might not score a touchdown on any single front, but I’ll be moving the chains, grinding out yardage, and keeping the drive alive. Let’s play some survival ball.

- I mentioned that the wolves howling is like a reverse game of Marco Polo.
- Later on, I mentioned that in high school, I was on the track and cross-country teams. But now I don’t run and I said that my “check engine light” is always on.
- I referred to the seagulls that all said “mine” from Finding Nemo.
- While talking about the coziness of Vintage Story… a survival game… I mentioned that I recently bought Icarus and found it to be just as harsh and just as cozy. I also mentioned that I learned about it from watching Paul Soares Jr‘s series about it.
- When I mentioned bronze, it reminded me of the movie, Mad Max where the police were called “bronze” as a derogatory term because of the bronze badges they wore. Like people used to call cops the fuzz or pigs.
- As I was heading home, I referred to my hut as the Batcave.
- While using different fuels to heat up the crucible, I compared the process to multistage rockets.
- “Liquid Hot Magma” is an homage to this.
- I mentioned TerraFirmaCraft. This led to a little discussion about modding in general and during that bit, I threw some shade at Electronic Arts. This then led to me talking about Hello Games and their game, No Man’s Sky which then led to me talking about the new Corvette ships and that led to mentions of Firefly and the Millenium Falcon.
- The mod I use for No Man’s Sky is Exosolar’s and Babs’ Beyond Base Building.
- I mentioned a number of other space games including Starflight, Elite Dangerous, Space Engineers, and Empyrion: Galactic Survival.
- I described my retirement fantasy and referred to it as my blue heaven.
